World AIDS day

Today is world AIDS day and numerous activities are organized worldwide to raise awarness on this issue, here is the poster for the walk against AIDS organized by Santa Helena clinic:

nice, simple and effective! This one is quite clever too:

AIDS is a huge issue that contains numerous problems, I will just share with you some of my favorite creative work related to this subject:

("doesn't matter where the desire come to you")

("AIDS is beautiful, this summer protect yourself!")

Jointex gave free condoms in the street, thanks to special marketing teams (straight and gay couples). The operation is on by rainy times to show the effectiveness of the umbrella (metaphore of the condom).

("AIDES (French asso who fight against AIDS), congratulates all those who protected themselves this summer")

Here are a few cartoons on the subjects ( pictures of the "drawing it out" exhibition I visited in the UN office of NY a couple of years ago so not so new but a few great ideas!)

and to finish by some condom art, here is the condom dress (from the same exhibition)

*** Just to remind you, as this may look like a "condoms are great" article, that condoms actually fails to prevent exposure to HIV/AIDS nearly 16% of the time ("Men with broken condoms: who and why?" STI online 2006). There is no scientific evidence that condoms prevent transmission of chlamydia, trichomoniasis, herpes, syphilis, chanchroid and HPV ("Scientific Evidence on Condom Effectiveness for STD Prevention" National Institute of Health 2001). The World Health Organisation is very clear on the fact that only the ABC program can remove AIDS from the world in 2 generations: Abstinence before mariage then Be faithfull during mariage then Condoms MUST BE USED if one of the spouse is infected. ***
